Management can often be labelled with the following mantras: working better, understanding clearly, and performing efficiently. These are just some of the key indicators of teams that are growing their skillsets, and know how to get their learning done, leading to team members performing at the top of their game.
Therefore, with the Team page's Line Manager View (LMV), leaders can analyse data, to take a strategic approach to team learning.
Line Manager Definition: A Line Manager (LM) is a User who has Direct Reports (DR). These are the Users who LMs are responsible for developing and checking-in with, and can be found within the Reports To column of the Users page.
To set a User as a Line Manager, have a look at our article: How to set a Line Manager for Users with "Reports To".
Who can be a Line Manager?
Anyone can be a Line Manager, regardless of Org User Role. Admins, Managers and Contributors will be able to use the LMV to achieve the following:
Access to the Team page (via the Homepage)
View Learning, Skills and Compliance for Direct Reports and Indirect Reports (IR)
Assign Learning to Direct Reports and Indirect Reports
Add Skills for Direct Reports and Indirect Reports
Read Only Users will be restricted to only the bolded options above.
Individual View
From your Homepage, select the Team option from your side panel. This will open the default Line Manager View, presenting the four tab options: People, Learning, Skills and Mandatory (with People always being the default main page view).
Each tab will allow Line Managers to achieve the following…
People
All of your Your Direct Reports will always be visible from this tab, along with 2 significant bulk options you can make, straight away: Assign Learning and Add Skills.
These can be done via the Actions option, giving you an instant way to ensure all your DRs are given the same opportunities to upskill.
At this point, the ball has already started rolling and you are ready to deep-dive into the other Skills and learning that each DR is undertaking. That's where you'll move on to their User card.
Your Direct Report's (DR) User card shows their Skills held, and gives you an option to contact them by email. This can be used to discuss their goals for Skill development, and give suggestions on where they can refocus their learning.
Clicking on the User card will take you to the Direct Report's insights on this Team page, to see their Learning, Skills and Mandatory data.
Direct Report > Learning tab
This provides insights on the various content types assigned to your DR, allowing you to see their Progress Status, and the Skills associated with each of those learning types.
For each of the content types, you will see the following…
Nuggets - Time Spent Learning, Completion Date, Deadline Date
Courses - Progress, Time Spent Learning, Rewards
SCORM - Progress Time Spent Learning, Rewards
Pathway - Steps, Progress, Time Spent Learning
HowNow+ - Progress, Time Spent Learning, Rewards
Live Class - Bookings, Attended, Cancelled
Webinar - Bookings, Attended, Cancelled
Event - Bookings, Attended, Cancelled
You can also see the User’s learning for any Content Libraries (LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, etc.) that may be connected to your organisation’s workspace.
On the slide-out screen, essential information such as whether content has been marked as complete, is Must Do compliance, is a time-sensitive Deadline, or has a Renewal Cycle (Expiry Date). You can also see the total number of Reviews given and the developed Skills they have (or are in progress to have).
Note✨: Content shown here will be both Published and Unpublished, where you can use the filter option to separate the results. Content will show with the most recent published first.
You can use the Assign Learning button, as a quick way to match your Direct Report with content that will enhance their performance in their role, and this can be done by adding up to 10 content items at a time.
Direct Report > Skills tab
This provides a look at the Skills held by your individual User, and include the following...
Focus Skills
Required Skills (added by your Manager/an Admin or via a Job Role)
Self-Added Skills
The presentation of this page is similar to that of the Skills Profile page, all with the same features: You can add and remove Focus Skills, from the list shown, and use the Add Skills option, to level-up your User’s existing Skills list.
Focus and Self-Added Skills: Clicking on this type will open a slide-out screen showcasing how long since the Skill was updated with a Review, along with the Self Review rating and Line Manager rating. Selecting the Request Self Review button, will send a nudge to your DR that they need to provide one.
Required Skills: This option only shows the Self and Line Manager Reviews.
Direct Report > Mandatory tab
Here holds all the information necessary for viewing important content, assigned as Must Do (this may often be compliance training).
Similar to the Learning tab, you can view the progress for each content type, and click on the row, to open the slide-out screen. This will show you the same summary card options as in the Learning tab - unique to each content type.
You can also assign learning to your User from here.

Team View
To view your team’s collective insights, head back to the main Team page (People tab), and navigate to the following tabs (don't select a User card).
Team page > Learning
Content assigned to all members of your Direct Reports team, will be visible via this tab. Clicking on the content’s row, opens the slide-out screen revealing how many - if any - team members have completed the learning.
Team page > Skills
The Skills tab allows you to see all Skills held by your DRs, in one place. Skills will appear as cards, if at least one User has received a review for it (Self Review or Requested).
Each card indicates the Level held by Users, and can be clicked to reveal the Skills Graph slide-out screen. From here, you can view the progression of the User’s Skill development, over a 6-month period.
How confident does a User with a Level 3 in Brand Development feel, if you recognise that they’ve spent over 3 months at this same Level, despite this being an agreed Focus Skill, for example? This Graph helps to identify such a trend, encouraging Managers to tailor their DR’s learning plans to help improve their Level overtime.
Team page > Mandatory
Compliance is a big driver for the use of the Mandatory section. From here, Line Managers can take a proactive approach to emphasising completion of such content, by identifying which Users in their team haven’t started/completed it, and sending them a reminder.
Click on your chosen content row, to open the slide-out screen. Here you’ll see the Progress Status and percentage for the assigned Users, along with a note giving a quick overview of how many Users still haven’t completed it (useful if you have a list of 50 Users to scroll through, for example).
Users will receive an instant email notification, as soon as you select the Send Reminder option. You can do this on a daily basis, to encourage them to keep this as a priority on their to-do list.
Watch these actions within our Team View tutorial video...
Indirect Reports
Line Managers can take a glimpse into the world of their Direct Report’s own team members, by viewing the Indirect Reports (IR) view. Next to your own name, the Indirect Reports button will open to reveal each of your Direct Reports, only if they themselves are a Line Manager to someone else.
This displays the same type of insights as found on the Team and Individual DR views, and can be used in a variety of ways. One example being to use the data to understand the strengths and weaknesses in a DR’s management style, and how well they’re doing in supporting and motivating a specific department of the business, as a Manager.
Each of the tabs: Learning, Skill and Mandatory, allow Line Managers to fulfil the same actions as for their own DRs:
Assign Learning to the IR
Add Skills to their Skill Profile
Send Reminders for Mandatory (compliance) content
You can use the navigation bar to quickly travel between the various 'layers' of the Team page:
Your Team view
Your DR's Team (Indirect Reports)
IR's data (via their User card)

Exporting Data
You can export all of the data shown across tabs, as CSV files, delivered directly to your email inbox. Below is an example of the Skills tab page export.
