Request learning for paid content in HowNow

Your organisation may keep some content behind a pay wall. Learn how to access it via a Request.

Some courses and events in HowNow have a price, but only if the author has chosen to add one. Instead of a start button, they show Request with the cost, and the lessons stay locked until a budget owner approves your request.

Before you start

You need a learning budget in the same currency as the price. If you don't have one, selecting the button tells you no budget is available: ask your admin to add you to a budget.

Request the content

  1. Open the course and select the button showing the price, for example Request GBP 120.00. The Request Learning panel opens.

A paid course page with the Request GBP 120.00 button highlighted

  2. Under Select Budget, choose the budget to pay from. Each one shows what you have left, for example 250 GBP left.

  3. Under Send Request To, choose one or more of that budget's owners.

  4. Optionally, add a Reason to help them decide (up to 400 characters).

The Request Learning panel with a budget, an approver and a reason filled in

  5. Select Submit Request.

Note: The owners you choose under Send Request To are notified as soon as you submit.

You'll see "Learning request submitted successfully", and the button changes to Pending budget approval. Once an owner approves the request, you can start the content.

Good to know

  • Choose a budget that covers the price. You can send a request for more than you have left, but an owner can't approve it until your balance covers the full cost.

  • It's tracked as a Premium Learning request in My Profile › Budgets and Requests. While it's pending you can only view or cancel it. It can't be edited, resubmitted or topped up, so if it's declined or cancelled, request it again from the content page.

  • Authors, collaborators and verifiers of the content don't need to request it: they already have access.
