How your Skill Level is calculated

Understanding how Skill Levels are given based on reviews.

Written by Sunil Sharma

Your Skill Level on a skill is the average of your latest self review and the latest review from each person who has reviewed you, rounded to the nearest whole level.

How it works

  • One vote per person. Only each reviewer's latest review counts, so a second review from your manager replaces their first. The same applies to your self review.

  • Halves round up. An average of 3.5 becomes Level 4.

  • Missing reviews are ignored. If nobody, including you, has reviewed the skill, it shows No Rating. If only your manager has reviewed it, their review is your level.

For example, you rate yourself Level 3 on Communication and your manager reviews you at Level 4. The average is 3.5, so your Skill Level is 4.

Manager reviews and peer reviews

Open a skill from Grow to see the reviews behind your level, in three cards:

Whose reviews

Self Review

Yours

Manager Reviews

Anyone with Admin or Manager access, and your line manager

Peer Reviews

Anyone else with Contributor or Read Only access

The split is for information only. Every reviewer's latest review carries the same weight.

Good to know

  • Because the average is rounded, one new review doesn't always change your level.

  • A new level can take a few moments to appear, because it's recalculated in the background.

  • When your level reaches a skill's target level, you get a notification, for example "You've reached the target level 3 for your skill skill."
