Add Group members from a CSV file

Upload a list of email addresses to add many people to a group at once. This only adds people who are already in your workspace. It doesn't invite anyone new.

Before you start

  • You need Admin access, or Manager access to the group.

  • Make a CSV file (up to 10 MB) with exactly one column, headed "Email", and one address per row:

Upload the file

  1. In the sidebar, select Manage › Groups and open the group.

  2. Select View All Members.

  3. Select the arrow on Add Members, then Import CSV. (You can also select Import CSV at the top of the Add Members panel.)

  4. If you need a starting file, select Download Template.

  5. Select Upload File and choose your CSV.

The Import CSV window with Upload File and Download Template

You'll see "CSV upload is being processed. Check notifications for updates." The import runs in the background. When it's finished, a notification tells you how many were added, for example "Out of the 2 group members you attempted to upload to Gift Wrap Desk Team, 1 member has been added."

Refresh the Members page to see them.

Note: If the file has any other column, or the header isn't "Email", it's rejected straight away with "CSV is blank or doesn't match the template."

Good to know

  • Some rows are skipped without stopping the import: addresses that don't belong to anyone in your workspace, deactivated people, and people already in the group.

  • Each person joins at their workspace access level. An Admin can change a member's group access level afterwards.

  • New members are treated as if you'd added them by hand. They get the group's assigned learning and budgets. See Add people to a group.

  • Someone who was in the group before and was removed is put back.
