Home is the first page you see in HowNow. It shows the learning you have to do (Mandatory), any big news from your organisation (Announcements) and Events (as and when they are live). It's also the page that recommends tailored learning via For You.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the various sections of the Home page, and what they mean.

AI Guru on Home
For organisations that use Guru, the top of the page will display the Ask Guru anything box. The questions or learning practice entered here, will take users to a newly created Guru page.
If your organisation doesn't have Guru, then this space will display the standard hello message(s).
Homepage learning rows (tabs)
There are 4 four important tabs ready to reveal your learning content. From what others are learning, to recommendations based on your skillset, here is where you’ll find new and existing content that’s relevant to your Job Role.
The four tabs include:
For You
Mandatory
Announcements
Events
All
This tab is home to seven rows, each with their own distinct set of content types and themes. This will give you a nice range of learning materials to dive into. Let’s look at the rows…
Focus Skills - content that’s been assigned Skills that you’ve chosen to prioritise. For example…
Kenny has a Level 2 in Communication, so sets this Skill as one of his Focus Skills (via the Skills Profile page).
The Nugget, “Communicating in a business environment”, is created and the Communication Skill is assigned to it.
Kenny now sees this Nugget - and all other content with Communication assigned to it - within the Focus Skills row.
The order of the content - from left to right - is displayed based on the Skill with the highest Skill Gap. The Focus Skills section will only be visible if there are at least 3 qualifying content items.
For example…
You have “Product Management” as a Skill at a Level 1.
Your Manager has set Level 4 as the required minimum for your Job Role.
Therefore, the first content card will be for learning associated with the Skill of “Product Management”.
Skill Gaps You Can Fill - When a Skill Gap occurs on your Skills Profile page, you'll have the chance to close the gap, by completely learning that's associated with the Skill. That's where this row comes in - it will only appear once you have a minimum of four assigned content items that are associated with the Skill.
For example...
Ken has "Business French" as a Skill at Level 1.
He is assigned three Courses on the topic. Each has the Skill at a Level 5.
Ken now has a Skills Gap for Business French.
The Skill Gaps You Can Fill row won't appear.
He is assigned one more Course on the topic.
The row is now visible with the Courses he is yet to take.
Note✨: Although Skills are reviewed between 1 - 5, Users can have a No Rating status for a Skill. This means the Skill has been assigned to the User before any rating has been given.
This occurs when a Skill has been added to a Job Role, then that same role assigned to the User. For example...
James has a Job Role of Junior Sales Executive
He has a Level 3 in Communication
His Manager adds Negotiation as a Skill to his Job Role
James views his Skills page and will see Negotiation under the Required Skills section.
It's at this point, James must either rate the Skill for himself, or request his Manager to provide one, to change the rating from No Rating to somewhere between 1-5.
In addition, If a User has a Skill with No Rating, then this is not considered a Skill Gap, as it has not yet been assessed by the User themselves, or their Manager.
These won't be featured in any Skill Gaps data displayed in the Manager/Admin Dashboard.
More Like This - you’ll be shown content that’s associated with the Skills you most frequently learned in the past.
For example…
3 months ago, you completed a significant amount of content associated with your Marketing Skill.
Other content items that are also associated, will surface here.
More Like This section further explained...
The way this content is suggested to you, falls under two categories...
The Skill Level you have
Often than not, content is associated with one or more Skills. This means Users will receive suggestions that match their Level.
For example...
Beverly is a Level 3 in Retail Management
Her Suggested Learning section will show content associated with the Retail Management Skill and that it's at a Level 3
The same type of content will be recommended at a Level 4, then 5, if no content matches the User's minimum Level.
No Content has a matching Skill Level
If your organisation doesn't have any Skill mapped to the relevant content, or any Skills mapped at your minimum Level (in Beverley's case, a Level 3) or higher, then no content will be recommended to you.
New & Noteworthy - freshly published content will be shown here, based on the publish date. This includes all content types, from third-party, to internally created content.
Peer Favourites - learn the same content as those who have the same Job Role as you (aka your Peers). These content items will be shown here.
Note✨: If you don’t have a Job Role, this section will be hidden.
Upcoming Deadlines - In published date order, find the content you have upcoming Deadlines for.
Recommended Spaces - these are the Spaces created by your Peers. You can access them to see the content shared, and active conversations.
Suggested Experts - connect with Peers across your organisation, who can use their expertise to help you improve your weakest Skills. Based on your highest Skill Gaps, the relevant Experts will be shown.
For example…
You have a Level 1 in “Presenting”
Your Job Role requires Level 5 in “Presenting”
Adam is an Expert (holds a Level 3 or higher) in “Presenting”
Adam will appear as an Expert in this section for you
Each Expert will have their own card. Here you can click the Skill name to open their slide screen, where the following information regarding the Skill will be shown:
Expert in - a list of all of the Skills this User holds, at a Level 3 or higher. These are known as ‘Competent Skills’.
Contributes to Spaces - all the Spaces where they have created content and assigned it to aid Spaces.
Achievements - the Certificates and Badges held by this Expert User.
You can email your Expert via the Email button visible on their card or the slide screen.
Continue Learning - all your content that remains In Progress will be presented here, encouraging you to return to finish content.
Mandatory
Mandatory content is any content that has been set as important to complete, using the toggle option in your content editor. This content will automatically be displayed within this section on your Homepage.
Content shown here will have a status of either Not Started, or In Progress. Once you open the content, it will no longer be displayed here (as you’ve opened/interacted with it).
The button for this section will show a number-count bubble. This shows the number of newly assigned content items that are Mandatory. It will disappear once you’ve clicked on the button to view the section.
Announcements
This section is home to content that Admins and Managers want to share as big news, or crucial interactions. Similar to the Mandatory section, you can see a number count of new content items assigned to you, as Announcements.
A content item can be both an Announcement and Mandatory, at the same time, however, such content will only be visible under the Announcements section.
Events
All events (Live Class/Webinar/Events) you’ve been assigned to - regardless of whether you’ve booked or not - are shown here, making it easier to find your sessions and keep abreast of what’s upcoming.
