What are Spaces?

Create a learning environment that enriches your teams and individuals, using Spaces,.

A Space is a shared area where a team or individuals posts updates, shares learning and books events together. Each Space can be based upon a Skill, topic of interest or any category of information people may want to learn more about using a community approach. Spaces you belong to are listed in your side panel.

How it works

A Space can have up to four tabs:

  • Feed: posts from members, with comments and reactions. Owners and moderators can pin posts to the top.

  • Resources: Nuggets, Courses and other internal content types added by the Space Owner.

  • Path: an ordered list of learning that members work through - often related to the Space topic.

  • Events: sessions members can book.

Owners and moderators can rename, reorder or hide tabs, so a Space may show different tab names or fewer tabs.

For example, a Store Opening Team Space might pin the opening-day rota in Feed, list the store opening checklist under Resources, and offer walkthrough sessions under Events.

Public and Private Spaces

  • Public: any user can select Join to begin following and interacting in the Space. You can leave and rejoin at any time.

  • Private: shown with a lock icon, these Spaces are hidden from search (only visible for members of the Space). To become a member, users must be added by the Space Owner themselves. (the same applies if a member leaves then wants to rejoin the Space).

Space roles

Each member is an Owner, a Moderator or a member.

Owners and moderators manage settings, members, tabs and content. Whoever creates a Space is a permanent Owner.

Space roles are separate from workspace Access Levels: an Admin who isn't an Owner or Moderator can't change a Space's settings, and Read Only users can only be members.

Who uses Spaces

So remember that Spaces can be used in a series of different ways, but the aim is the same: to create a collective area for ideas-sharing and social learning...

  • Learners join Spaces to follow updates, ask questions, use shared resources and book events. You need to join before you can post, comment, react or book.

  • Team leads and creators set up Spaces for a team, project or cohort. Anyone except Read Only users can create one.

A Space isn't a group. Admins use groups to assign learning and budgets; a Space is where people interact and learn together.
