Rules that catch people out
Rule | What it means |
The creator is always an owner | Whoever created the Space can't be removed, can't have their role changed and can't leave it. |
Nobody can change or remove themselves | Owners see Owners cannot change their own role. and Owners cannot remove themselves. Ask another owner. |
Moderators can't manage owners | A moderator's role menu offers only Moderator and Member, and owners' rows are locked for them. |
Read Only users stay members | People with Read Only workspace access can only be members. The role menu is locked with Read-only users can hold the Member role only. |
Only authors delete posts | Owners and moderators can pin someone else's post, but can't edit or delete it. |
Workspace access doesn't carry over | Being a workspace Admin doesn't give you owner rights in a Space where you're a member: you won't see the settings cog, View Insights or Add Resources there. |
Good to know
People are notified when their role changes, for example You're a moderator of Store Opening Team.
There's no limit on how many owners or moderators a Space has.
Space roles are separate from workspace access levels.
