Once your last attempt is marked as a fail and you have attempts left, select Retake Assessment under Your Attempts or on your results page.
If you don't reach the passing grade, you can try again when the author allows retakes. The course page shows how many tries you have, for example 1 attempt left or Unlimited attempts.
Before you start
You can retake only when all of these are true:
The author set a passing grade and turned on retakes.
Your last attempt has been marked. You can't retake while it's Pending.
You didn't pass.
You have attempts left.
Retake the assessment
Open the course and select the assessment under Content Covered.
Under Your Attempts, select Retake Assessment. It's also on your results page.
Answer the questions again, then select Save & Finish. Your earlier answers aren't carried over, and if you're asked for a marker, you choose again.
Your new attempt is added under Your Attempts and is marked like the first one.
If Retake Assessment is greyed out
Hover over or select the (i) icon, next to it to see why.
Message | What to do |
You have submitted this Assessment but it is not marked yet. | Wait for your marker. You can retake once it's marked, if you didn't pass. |
You have used all of your retakes for this Assessment. | Ask the course author if you need another try. |
You have completed this Assessment. | You've passed, so there's nothing to retake. |
Good to know
Retakes are on top of your first try. If the author allows 1 retake, you get 2 attempts in total.
On a timed assessment, the timer starts again from the full time limit.
Every attempt stays listed under Your Attempts.
