The workspace owner is the one protected Admin account that owns your workspace, usually the Admin who set HowNow up for your organisation.
Where to see it
Admins can see the owner in Settings › General, under Identity › Workspace owner. The field is greyed out because you can't change it there.
How it works
The owner's account is protected. In Manage › People, the owner's row menu has no Change Access Level, Deactivate or Delete. If you select them and choose Change Access Level or Deactivate from More Actions, a message says they're excluded because User is a School Owner.
Being owner doesn't give extra access on its own. The owner needs Admin access to open workspace settings, like any other Admin.
The owner is the fallback for other people's things. When someone leaves and you don't choose who takes over their content, Spaces and budgets, they go to the workspace owner.
If the owner's account is deactivated another way, for example by your HR system sync, HowNow makes your longest-standing active Admin the new owner. Their content moves to the new owner, and every active Admin is emailed about the change.
For example, if your L&D lead set up HowNow and later leaves, ask HowNow to move ownership to another Admin before their account is deactivated. Otherwise the owner becomes your longest-standing active Admin, which may not be who you'd choose.
Who it matters to
Admins planning for someone leaving, especially when the owner is the one leaving, and anyone wondering why they can't deactivate or change one particular Admin.
