Single sign-on (SSO) lets people sign in to HowNow with the work account they already use, such as their Microsoft account, instead of a separate HowNow password.
How it works
HowNow sets it up with your IT team. There's no SSO setting in your workspace. HowNow works with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Okta, JumpCloud and OneLogin. Sign in with Google is a separate option that can appear alongside your company button.
Each workspace connects to one company provider. For example, you can't offer Microsoft and Okta side by side.
People sign in with one button. It reads Sign in with Microsoft, Sign in with Okta, Sign in with JumpCloud, Login with SSO (OneLogin), or Sign in with followed by a name agreed at setup, such as "Sign in with Contoso". It sends people to your company's sign-in page and back to HowNow, signed in.
Password sign-in can stay on or be switched off. If it's off, the sign-in page has no Work Email or Password fields, and the password reset page says "This workspace uses single sign-on, so there is no password to reset."
The email addresses must match. SSO confirms who someone is, then HowNow looks for an account with the same email address. If someone's work email changes, their HowNow email needs to change too, or they can't get in.
People usually need a HowNow account first. On most workspaces set up for SSO, someone without a HowNow account is turned away even if their work account is fine. Invite people or sync them from your HR system before they first sign in. HowNow never creates a new account once your workspace has no free seats.
The mobile app and the Chrome extension offer the same company sign-in.
Who uses it
Everyone who signs in. If your work account is locked or you've forgotten your work password, contact your IT team, not your HowNow admin.
Admins. You still add people to HowNow, but they don't need a password. Resend Invite leaves SSO users out and tells you how many, for example "3 users are SSO users". To set up, change or remove SSO, contact your HowNow Customer Success Manager.
