Work on the Skills for your Target Role

How a Target Role can be achieved by recognising the Skills needed.

Once you've chosen a target role, rate yourself on its skills to see where you stand, then focus on the gaps.

Rate yourself on a target role skill

  1. In the sidebar, select Grow, then select the Target card.

  2. Find a skill showing No Rating and select the three-dot menu, at the end of its row.

  3. Select Add Review.

The Target view with the Add Review option open for a skill showing No Rating

  4. Choose your current level. The panel shows the level the role needs, for example Target Level: 3, and describes each level so you can pick the closest match.

  5. Select Submit Review.

The row now shows your level against the target, for example L2/L3, with a status. The skill is also added to your profile, marked From [role name] role.

Then work on it

Once you've rated a skill, its menu offers:

  • Add to Focus: so HowNow recommends learning for it.

  • Request Review: to ask your manager or a colleague how they'd rate you.

  • Update Review: to change your own rating as you improve.

Good to know

  • Statuses here are Ready, Developing and Stretch, not Gap, Met and Exceeded. Ready means you've reached the target level, Developing means you're below it but your level went up at your last rating, and Stretch means you're below it and haven't moved up.

  • Rows in the Target view don't open a skill page. After you've rated a skill, open any skill page from Today and use the skill list at the top to jump to it.

  • Before you rate a skill, its only option is Add Review, and you can't remove target role skills from this view.

  • Rated target role skills stay under the Target card; they don't also appear under Also Developing.
