How Guru shows the sources it used

What exactly are the sources Guru uses to answer your questions?

Sources are the pieces of content a Guru drew on to write a Deep Dive, such as a course, a web page or an uploaded document.

How it works

When a Deep Dive uses content from the Guru's knowledge, a sources link appears under its title, for example 1 Source or 3 Sources (9+ Sources for more than nine). Select it to list the sources in the Source panel, then select one to open it in a new tab:

  • Web pages open the original page.

  • HowNow content, such as a course, opens its page in HowNow if you have access to it.

A deep dive with the sources link highlighted under its title

For example, if a Guru on returns has your "Handling Returns with Confidence" course and your refunds policy page in its knowledge, a deep dive on refunds might list both. You can then open the course to read the original lesson.

Only deep dives show sources. Chat answers, quizzes and role-plays use the same knowledge, but the Guru presents it as its own and doesn't name documents or files. To check where something came from, ask for a deep dive on it.

If a source won't open

  • "You are not authorised to access this." You don't have access to that course, or it's no longer published. The new tab opens Home with this message. Ask the Guru's creator or your admin for access.

  • "This course has not been imported into this instance." Admins see this when the source is a HowNow+ course your organisation hasn't added yet.

  • "The content is no longer part of this Guru." The creator has removed that content since the deep dive was written.

Who uses it

  • Learners open sources to read the original material behind a deep dive.

  • Creators use them to check the Guru draws on the right content. Learners only get answers from saved knowledge, not unsaved edits.
