Add a job role so you can give people a role and set the skills, and skill levels, that the role needs.
Before you start
You need Admin access. Roles doesn't appear under Manage for other access levels.
If Add Role or Map Skills is missing, HowNow manages job roles or role skills for your workspace, for example from your HR system.
Add the role
In the sidebar, select Manage › Roles, then select Add Role.
In Role Name, start typing. Then do one of the following:
Pick a suggestion to use a role from the HowNow library, such as "Visual Merchandising Coordinator". This switches the library role on for your workspace rather than creating a copy.
Type a new name and press Enter if nothing suitable is suggested, for example "Fitting Room Assistant".
Optionally, add a Role Description (up to 250 characters) so admins know what the role covers.
To add the role's skills now, select Map Skills at the top of the panel. Tick each skill, then select Map Skills to return. You can map up to 30 skills.
Under Required Skills, set each skill's Target Level (1 to 5). The level is what someone in this role is expected to reach, and it starts at 1.
Select Add Role. Nobody is notified.
The role appears in the Roles list with its required skills. It shows No People until you give it to someone in Manage › People.
Good to know
Role names must be unique, whatever the capitals. A role that's already in your workspace isn't offered as a suggestion.
A library role starts with no skills in your workspace, so map its skills before you assign it.
Changing a role's skills updates the skill targets of everyone who holds it.
You can also map skills later from the role's ⋯ menu, or let AI suggest them.
