Mapping skills tells HowNow which skills a course, nugget or pathway develops, and at what level.
Before you start
You can map skills to content you're the author or a collaborator of. Admins can map skills to any content, including content from connected libraries.
Each item can have up to 10 skills, including any already mapped. If an item has 7, you can add 3 more.
Map Skills with AI only appears if your workspace has AI skill mapping turned on. If you don't see it, ask your admin.
Map skills
In the sidebar, select Manage › Content and search for the item.
Select ... at the end of its row, then More › Map Skills. If the item has no skills yet, you can also select Map Skills in its Skills Developed cell.
Search for a skill and tick it. To let HowNow suggest skills from the content instead, select Map Skills with AI. Suggested skills are ticked for you and marked with a sparkle icon; untick any you don't want.
For each ticked skill, select Skill Level and choose the level the content teaches, from 1 (Novice) to 5 (Expert). New skills start at level 1.
For example, an introductory nugget on gift wrapping might teach Gift Wrapping at level 2, while an advanced complaints course teaches Complaint Handling at level 4.
Select Map Skills.
You'll see a message such as 3 skills mapped to followed by the item's name, and the skills appear in its Skills Developed cell.
Change a level or remove a skill
In Manage › Content, select the skills in the item's Skills Developed cell.
Select the three-dot menu next to a skill, then Update Skill Level or Remove Skill. If you remove a skill by mistake, map it again.
Good to know
To map skills to multiple items at once, tick them in Manage › Content and use the bulk actions bar.
Skills from Map Skills with AI are labelled Mapped by AI in the item's skills list.
