Mark someone's learning as completed

Written by Sunil Sharma

If someone finished learning outside HowNow, for example in a classroom session, you can record the completion with the date they finished.

Before you start

  • Admins can do this on any content. Managers can only do it on content they created or collaborate on; on anyone else's content, the menu only offers Send Message and Send Reminder. Contributors can't mark learning as completed.

  • It works for courses, nuggets and SCORM courses. Pathways, events, live classes and webinars can't be marked as completed.

  • The person must be assigned the content and not have completed it yet. If Mark as Completed isn't in the menu, one of these rules applies.

Mark one person as completed

  1. In the sidebar, select Manage › Learning and select the content's name. Its overview opens in a new browser tab.

  2. In Learning Activity, select View All Learners.

  3. Select ... on the person's row, then Mark as Completed.

  4. Under Completion Date, pick the day they finished. It can't be in the future. For content people renew, it must fall within the current renewal period.

The Mark as Completed dialog with the Completion Date field highlighted

Remember❗: Once you've marked someone as completed, you can't change the date or undo it.

  5. Select Mark as Completed.

You'll see Marked as completed. Their row shows Completed, 100% and the date you picked.

Mark several people at once

On the same page, tick the people, then select Mark as Completed in the bar at the bottom. Before you confirm, you're told how many people will be skipped and why, for example because they've already finished.

Start from a person or a group

  • From a person: on their Learning or Mandatory page in Manage › People, select the three-dot menu on the item, then Mark as Completed.

  • From a group: on the group's Assigned Learning page, select the three-dot menu › View Details on the item, then use the member's three-dot menu.

Good to know

  • It counts as a normal completion. Lesson-completion badges are awarded, and it counts towards any pathway the content is in.

  • Assessment results aren't changed. If the person failed an assessment in the course, it stays failed.

  • Paid content that needs an approved learning request can only be marked as completed once the request is approved.
