Each pathway step is one piece of learning, such as a course, nugget, event or external course.

Before you start

You need to be the pathway's author or a collaborator, with Admin, Manager or Contributor access.

Add steps

  1. Open the pathway in the editor.

  2. Choose where the new steps go:

    • Empty pathway: select a source, such as My Content, in the list of options.

    • Inside a section: select Add Step in the section.

    • After a step or section: hover just to the left of it and select +.

The + button to the left of a section, with its menu of sources open

3. Choose a source: My Content, From the Web, HowNow+ or My Integrations. See Which content you can add to a pathway.

4. Search for the item. To narrow the results, select the filter icon and choose Created By, Language or Duration.

5. Select + next to each item you want.

The My Content panel with a search, the filters open and the + button next to a result

6. Select Done.

The steps appear where you chose. The step count and total time under the pathway name update straight away.

Reorder steps

Hover to the left of a step and drag it by the dotted handle, including into or out of a section. The new order saves when you let go.

Note: If Sequential Learning is on, the order decides which steps stay locked until learners finish the ones before.

Remove a step

  1. Hover to the left of the step and select the bin icon.

  2. In Remove Step?, select Yes, Proceed.

Remember: You can't undo removing a step. If the pathway is published, learners' progress changes straight away.

Good to know

  • A pathway can have up to 100 steps. Sections don't count towards this.

  • Each item can only be added once to the same pathway.

  • My Content only lists published content. It leaves out anything set to Only with Link.

  • Adding a step to a published pathway moves learners who had finished it back to In progress until they complete the new step. Removing a step can do the reverse: learners who have finished every remaining step are marked complete.

  • Earlier completions count. If a learner has already completed an item before you add it, its step is ticked off for them straight away.
