What Draft, Scheduled, Published and Unpublished mean

Written by Sunil Sharma

Every piece of content has a status, shown in the Content Status column of Manage › Content. It tells you whether learners can get to it yet, and whether you can assign it.

What it means

Assign Learners?

Draft

Saved but never live.

No

Scheduled

Set to go live on a later date, chosen on the editor's Release & Deadline step.

Not until it goes live

Published

Live now. Where people find it depends on its visibility.

Yes

Unpublished

Was live, then someone took it down with Unpublish.

No

For example, you finish "Handling Customer Complaints" on Friday but want it live on Monday morning. Schedule it for Monday and it shows as Scheduled until HowNow publishes it on that date.

Note: Unpublishing hides content from learners but keeps their progress records.

Good to know

  • Assign Learners and Unpublish only appear in a row's ... menu once the content is Published.

  • Scheduled content has no Unpublish. To cancel a course's schedule, open it in the editor, go to Release & Deadline, set Course Availability to Immediately and select Save Draft. It goes back to Draft. Selecting Save Draft with Later and a date still set keeps it Scheduled.

  • You see other people's drafts only if you're a collaborator on them. Admins see all published content, but not other people's drafts.
