Publish a pathway

Written by Sunil Sharma

Publishing makes your pathway live and assigns it to the learners you chose.

Before you start

Only the pathway's author and its collaborators can publish it. Publish stays greyed out until the pathway has at least one step and at least one learner.

Add learners

  1. In the pathway editor, select the person icon (Add Learners and Creators) at the top of the page.

  2. On the Learners tab, search in Share with people or Groups and select the people or groups.

  3. Select Apply. You'll see how many people are in your audience.

Remember: If you choose a group or rule, anyone who matches it later is assigned automatically while the pathway is published.

  4. To email learners about the assignment, turn on Send an email notification to all assigned users. It's off by default.

  5. Select Save Changes. Nobody is assigned until you publish.

Publish

  1. Select Publish. To check it first, preview the pathway.

The Publish button at the top right of the pathway editor

  2. If a warning appears, choose whether to continue:

    • The empty section will be removed when the Pathway is published. Sections with no steps are deleted.

    • A warning that some steps aren't available to everyone, or, on a sequential pathway, that sequential learning may block progress. These appear only when an admin publishes, your workspace limits connected library content to admins, and the pathway includes a connected library course, such as from Udemy. Learners without access to that library may never finish the pathway.

You'll see Your Pathway has been published! with the number of learners it was assigned to. Learners find it in their assigned learning straight away.

Good to know

  • The learner count can lag. Learners are assigned in the background, so the avatars can show 0 for a few seconds.

  • Deadlines set as a period of time count from each learner's assignment date.

  • A pathway can unpublish itself. If the content in every step is later unpublished or deleted, the pathway is unpublished overnight and its author and collaborators are emailed.
