Choose a Guru's coaching style

S
Written by Sunil Sharma

The coaching style sets how your Guru talks to learners: whether it asks questions, gives direct steps or focuses on encouragement. It changes the tone, not what the Guru knows, and it's optional.

Choose a style

  1. Open your Guru in the editor and select Configure on the Coaching Style card.

  2. Select the card for the style that fits your learners. You can choose one style at a time.

Your choice saves straight away and the card stays highlighted. To hear how it sounds, try the Guru in the Preview chat.

The four coaching styles

How the Guru coaches

Good for

Socratic Guide

Asks open questions and follow-ups so learners reach their own answers.

Judgement and reflection, such as handling a difficult customer.

Directive Coach

Gives clear, step-by-step guidance with frameworks and checklists.

Processes with a right answer, such as a refund procedure.

Structured Mentor

Breaks bigger topics into step-by-step lessons based on best practice.

Longer-term development, such as becoming a team leader.

Supportive Friend

Warm and encouraging, with positive reinforcement.

New starters and confidence-building.

Good to know

  • With no style selected, the Guru uses a mix of supportive and directive coaching. To go back to no style, select the highlighted card again.

  • On a published Guru, a new style only reaches learners when you select Save

    Changes.

  • The style applies to every learner who uses the Guru. Learners can't change it.
