Upload files to a Guru's knowledge base

S
Written by Sunil Sharma

Upload documents, slides, recordings and images so a Guru can answer from material that isn't in HowNow, such as a policy document or a training recording.

Before you start

  • You can only change the knowledge base of a Guru you created.

  • Only upload files learners may see. The Guru can use anything in them in its answers.

Upload files

  1. Open your Guru in the editor. For a published Guru, expand Gurus in the sidebar, select it, then select ⋮ › Edit Guru.

  2. On the Knowledge Base card, select Configure.

  3. Select the Upload tab.

  4. Drag up to 10 files onto Upload a file or drag and drop it here, or select the box to choose them.

The Upload tab in a Guru's Knowledge Base

Each file appears under Content Added and moves through Uploading your content..., Learning what this is about... and Finding where this fits... to Your Guru just got smarter. Then it shows its file type and size, and the Guru can use it. Audio and video take longer, because they're transcribed first.

Note: On a published Guru, uploaded files only reach learners when you select Save Changes. If you close or refresh the editor first, the uploads are discarded.

Supported files

Type

Formats

Documents

DOC, DOCX, PDF, TXT, MD, HTML

Slides

PPTX (older PPT files are also accepted)

Images

JPG, JPEG, PNG (the text in them is read)

Audio

MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, OPUS, WMA

Video

MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, MPEG

Each file can be up to 200 MB.

If a file doesn't upload

  • "File size exceeds the 200 MB limit." The file is too big. Compress it or split it into smaller files.

  • "Unsupported file type. Please upload one of the accepted formats listed above" Save the file in a supported format, such as PDF, and upload it again.

  • Only some of your files appear. You can add 10 files at a time, and any extra files in the same batch are left out. Add the rest in another batch.

  • Nothing happens. Empty files are ignored.

  • File contains malware or Upload failed. Remove the file and upload a clean copy, or try another format, such as PDF.

Good to know

  • The Guru doesn't name your files in chat. It uses what's in them as its own knowledge.

  • To replace a file, remove the old one and upload the new version, so the Guru doesn't use both.
