Give learners a badge or certificate when they finish a course, or when they finish particular lessons in it.
Before you start
You need to be the course's author or a collaborator. The lesson list only shows published lessons, so publish the lessons you want to count first.
Add the reward
Open the course in the course builder and select Release & Deadline (step four).
Under Rewards, turn on Would you like to add a reward to your course?
Warning
If you turn this switch off later, every reward on the course is deleted. HowNow asks "Are you sure?" first.
Select Add Reward, then Badge or Certificate.
Fill in the details:
Badge: a Badge Name (up to 50 characters) and a Description (up to 300). Pick one of the Templates, or tick Or upload your own badge design and upload a PNG or JPG of up to 25 MB.
Certificate: a Certificate Name (up to 300 characters), a template, a Certificate Title and a Signatory Name (up to 50 characters each). Add a signature image under Upload Signature if you want one.
Under When would you like to issue the Badge? (or the Certificate?), choose:
On course completion if the reward should mean "finished the whole course".
On lesson completion to pick the lessons or sections that earn it. For example, tick only the final assessment lesson so a certificate means "passed the assessment".
Select Save Badge (or Save Certificate).
The reward is saved straight away and listed under Rewards. You don't need to save the course again.
Good to know
People who already finished the course don't get a new reward automatically. Give it to them with Give a badge or certificate to someone manually.
Once the course has been published, the design and what earns the reward are locked. You can still change the name and description. See I can't change my badge or certificate.
A course can have more than one reward, for example a badge for the first module and a certificate for the whole course.
